“I haven’t played a lot of villains”: Vin Diesel Wanted to be Thanos of His Own Superhero Universe Before $37M Catastrophe Made Him Run Back to Fast and Furious

Vin Diesel has dominated Hollywood mainly as an action star over the years. From his long-standing involvement in The Fast and The Furious franchise to films like A Man Apart and The Last Witch Hunter, the actor has regaled audiences with his penchant for speed and action. With his successful stint in Marvel as the adorable Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, Diesel endeared himself to fans even more.
Despite playing characters that are anti-heroes, Vin Diesel has never really been cast as an outright antagonist with no moral shades. The actor addressed this in an earlier interview during the promotions of his film Bloodshot, in which he hoped to see himself as a true blue villain.

BloodShot Could Have Been Vin Diesel’s Chance To Play A VillainBloodshot starring Vin Diesel was a superhero film based on the character of the same name from Valiant Comics. It follows a soldier who was killed in action only to be brought back to life with superpowers by an organization that wants to use him as a weapon. While doing promotions for the film in 2020, Diesel elaborated on a question that was posed to him regarding the fact that he had never played a complete antagonist before. The actor agreed with the opinion and said that his character Bloodshot would probably change that scenario as the narrative developed further.
“That character is rich enough and in that Valiant universe, there are story lines in which he is the villain – and that’s why the story line was so dynamic for me.”

Despite Diesel’s high hopes for the character and the film, Bloodshot ended up failing at the box office with negative reviews from critics and disappointing opinions from audiences. The backlash further hampered the possibility of more installments in the franchise which then led Diesel to focus his attention back on developing The Fast and The Furious franchise.
Vin Diesel Is Emotionally Connected To The Fast And Furious FranchiseIt’s been an era for Vin Diesel and the Fast and Furious franchise and the actor reportedly has no plans to slow down. From making his name in Hollywood to considering the franchise as family, Vin Diesel’s association with the popular action film series is one for the books. Speaking at a Comic Con event ahead of the release of Fast X in May, the star was emotional as he went down memory lane.

“This is our family. The audience is our family. And as we were building toward this achievement, we were attracting directors who each brought their own magic to the saga. I’m proud to say for two decades, the Fast films have been the most successful film of every one of our directors’ careers,”
Diesel also thanked his fans and audiences for being instrumental in the success of the Fast films and making them a cult series. With a two-part installment already planned after Fast X, Vin Diesel’s love story with the franchise continues.
